The Midland Regional Network vision was developed in 2005 through an iterative process involving many stakeholders. The Midland region is particularly indebted to the Midland Region He Tipuana Nga Kakano (regional consumer advisory group) for the impetus and direction they provided in February and May 2005.

On the 1st of August 2011, the Midland Mental Health & Addictions Network moved into the HealthShare entity. HealthShare is the five Midland DHBs Shared Service Agency. Over the last three years a number of projects have been undertaken utilising a regional approach. For 2011-2012 the Midland MH&A Network in partnership with the Midland Regional Planners have develop a MH&A Work Plan that aligns to national expectations outlined in the Regional Clinical Services Plan.
