Kia ora koutou
Thank you very much for your interest and ongoing support of the NSF project.
This project commenced in 2007 and aims to review, revise and develop nationwide service specifications for the Mental Health and Addictions sector, within an established framework.
We would like to acknowledge and thank the many project participants who have contributed to the developments thus far. These developments would not have been possible without their most enthusiastic efforts.
We invite you to participate in this project by considering the phase 3 draft documents (developed over the past six months) and providing feedback to us.
Draft documents include:
Forensic Mental Health (Tier 2 & 3)
Youth Forensic (Tier 2 & 3)
| Youth Forensic Tier 2 | Tier 3 Community Youth Forensic |
| Tier 3 Youth Forensic Inpatient |
Perinatal Mental Health (Tier 2 &3)
| Tier 2 Perinatal Mental Health | Tier 3 Specialist Perinatal Mental Health |
| Tier 3 Specialist Perinatal Mental Health with Accommodation | Tier 3 Perinatal Mental Health Respite |
Asian, Migrant and Refugee (Tier 2 &3)
| Tier 3 Asian, Migrant &Refugee MH&A Service | Tier 3 Asian, Migrant & Refugee Specialist Services |
| Tier 3 Asian, Migrant & Refugee Cultural Support Service |
Mental Health of Older People (Tier 2&3)
These tiered documents need to be read together and each contracted service would have a tier 1, tier 2 and tier 3, service specification component within their contract. It might be helpful to consider these draft documents using the following questions:
1. What aspects of the documents do you support?
2. What aspects require change?
3. What should those changes include?
4. Are there specifications missing in the range?
5. Any other comments?
Please direct your feedback via email to Roz by 5pm Thursday 28th January 2010.
Any queries? Need further information? Please drop me an email roz_sorensen "at" moh.govt.nz

The Ministry of Health has undertaken a project where the current Mental Health and Addictions Service Specifications Framework is being reviewed. This work commenced 9 months ago and is due to be completed in June 2009. This has been a significant peice of work which has involved a series of consultation forums across the country. The Ministry of Health is using an iterative process which is evolving and encourages people to provide feedback at all stages.
For the Midland region we will be utilising the established regional network forums to undertake this consultation as well as using our Midland website to post updated information.
The Ministry of Health has completed most of the work on the Service Coverage document and is in the processing of finalising this:
Draft 8 Service Coverage Principles
