Mandatory Requirements for Effective Risk Management & Training
In 2004 a Ministry of Health working group developed the Violence Risk Assessment & Management. This was reviewed and adapted in 2006 and used as a basis by the Waikato DHB Risk Reference Group in developing the Risk Assessment & Management Programme (RAMP). The training programme was further developed by the Midland Workforce Development Training Group, to be known as the Risk Assessment, Formulation & Treatment Planning (RAFT).
The programme was designed on behalf of the Ministry of Health to assist general adult mental health services meet the day-to-day requirement for risk assessment and management. The Ministry’s goal was to develop a sustainable effective risk management-training package and provide regional/national consistency with the application of one training programme.
From discussions with the various Midland DHB Risk Training Groups, there was/is some contention around what exactly were the ‘mandatory requirements’.
A research of documents related to the development of the risk training programme, indicated that the mandatory requirements were based on a combination of factors.
I have therefore put together a synopsis regarding mandatory requirements, that can be perused through the link below:
